Do your kids find camping boring? If you send them away from their cell phones and computers, would they be thrown into complete dread? As for you, your dread is: how to entertain kids on a camping trip without electronics. Here are some ideas.
BOARD GAMES. Take some board games together with you on your camping trips. You can even take some deck of cards or checkers, whichever is available in your house. These kind of games require more than one person to play, so everyone will have the opportunity to join. Award interesting gifts, say, winner gets first pick at spot for their own sleeping bag.
BRING A BALL. Most camping grounds also have areas where you and your family can begin to play sports. You can play basketball, catch, volleyball or avoid ball. All these games don’t need you to bring large equipments which can make it easier. The entire family may participate and have fun!
STORYTELLING. When I was still young, I used to love hearing stories from my parents. Ghost stories are popular for a dark night outdoors but make sure it is entertaining and age appropriate. You don’t want to frighten your kids.
SCAVENGER HUNT. While taking your kids on a nature walk you can start the scavenger hunt. Make a list of all the things that you would possibly find on the camping ground such as rocks, leaves, bugs and etc. Let them bring it to you and whoever gets to find all the things, you can offer a small prize for the winner.
PHOTOGRAPHY. Kids love to check out and what better way for them to seize the interesting subjects they’ve identified is to take pictures. You can get them a cheap one and also teach them some photography skills. With all the pictures taken through their camera, they can create a scrapbook out of it.
STAR GAZING. I used to love this whenever we go on camping with my family. With our sleeping bags spread out around the campfire, we used to watch for constellations and some stars at the sky. Get a simple constellation viewer for a few dollars if you don’t know your stars.
The kids who find camping out boring usually have not put in a night outdoors. Once they are available you’d be amazed how adept they’re at entertaining themselves on the camping trip
