T In The Park 2010 is an essential date on any music enthusiasts’ calendar. Held at the airport in Balado, Kinross-shire, between Fri. the 9th and Sunday 11th of July, this 3 day holiday is being headlined by some real musical heavy weights! Fri. sees Muse taking the top slot with their stadium filling brand or rock. Frontman & guitar player Matt Bellamy has been welcomed as one of the best abilities to come out of the United Kingdom for years and his band never displease.

On Saturday it is rapper and self confessed bad boy Eminem who ends the show. The closing party on Sunday is headlined by Leicester rockers, Kasabian, who have just been nominated for three awards by the readers of MOJO magazine. Another highlight, in my opinion, would be the opportunity to see the mythical Stupidity headlining the Radio One / NME stage. Expect to hear some great ska / pop classics like ‘It Must Be Love, our place, Baggy Trouser and The Prince mixed together with the common Stupidity nonsense.

Stereophonics have recently released a new album titled ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’. They are hitting the Main stage just prior to Eminem along with Paolo Nutini, Vampire Weekend, The Proclaimers, Newton Faulkner and Scouting for Girls.Paloma Faith, the beautifully quirky singer/performer, is supporting Muse of the Friday with The Big Pink. In addition to the 3 main stages there is also King Tuts Wah Wah stage, (Calvin Harris, Mumford and Sons), The Red Bull Jam Future stage, (Echo and the Bunnymen, Ash, The Drums) and the Slam tent, (Carl Cox, Plastikman) Plus a bounty of acts appearing across the week end such as Chipmunk, Perl and the Puppets, Unicorn Kid, Kid Adrift and The Boy Who Trapped The Sun.

Between your favourite artist,, you can wander over to the funfair or the theatre where you can choose for yourself what films you see. Voting will open sometime before the event and the most well-liked films get shown. Also there’ll be 2 Healthy T areas, one in the music arena and one in the campsite. Gloucester Waterways Museum details life on the waterways with stills and artefacts and interactive PC features. Outside there are a steam dredger, a barge a tugboat and one or two narrow boats all helping paint the picture. You may take brook cruises from the museum. The Docks are also home to the Squaddies of Gloucester Museum telling the tale of both the Gloucester Regiment and the Hussars. Gloucester Antique Centre is also situated here. A Engaging place where you can skim or barter on all things old from ceramics, watches and clocks, jewelry, glassware furniture, books etc for example. The list is unending.

Sudely Castle : Home to the families of Lord and Woman Ashcombe and Henry and Mollie Dent-Brocklehurst, Sudely Castle is an amazing day out. Learn the history of this smashing medieval site and explore the prize winning gardens. There’s also a journey park for the more dynamic visitor and a Pheasantry.

Visit St Marys’ church where Katherine Parr lies buried and if you are getting married you may want to consider Sudely as the venue for your big day. With numerous exhibitions and acres of grounds Sudely Castle is a great day out. Oh! And it has a very nice coffee shop too!

The Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire is soaked in history and has so many places to see it’s not possible to list them here. Here are one or two that spring to mind.

The Sculpture Trail: Starting at Beechenhurst Lodge, in the heart of The Forest, the sculpture train is a fantastic way of exploring the area. With 21 sculptures, from some of the finest artists from all over the world, it is a fascinating way to spend a few hours. There are not many forests in the world, (I challenge you to find one!), where you can find a 15 feet high, 10 feet wide stained glass window suspended between 2 trees or a secret hollow with a flotilla of small charred boats, setting out across the green marsh. The Trail is free to everyone and really is well worth a visit.

National Birds of Prey Centre: The first time I visited the centre I was a young boy with my school. I can remember being totally fascinated by the colours, shapes and sizes of the various Owls, Eagles and Falcons collected or rescued from all over the globe. Having successfully bred over 60 species, and with a breeding which is on going, you may lucky enough to see an Buzzard or Eagle chick when you visit. The centre holds three ‘flying’ shows a day, with a flying team of over 60 birds and also runs various courses for people who have a serious interest in these breath taking creatures. Open 7 days a week but closed in December and January.

Dean Forest Railway: Running between Northchard, Lydney Junction and Parkend this wonderful railway takes you through the Lydney area of the Royal Forest of Dean. You can hop off during trip and go shopping in the town. Visit Bathurst Park or enjoy your lunch sitting by the lake at St Mays Halt. At Northchard there is the Museum which contains many varied railway artifacts and also the ’9681 Sales Coach’ which sells books, magazines and puzzles. Between the 4th and 6th of June the ever popular Thomas the Tank Engine will be on the railway with a Thomas party taking place on the 5th. This is a popular day so please book early.

Cearwell Caves : Iron has been mined here for millenia and still to this day in the caves underneath The Forest of Dean. Clearwell has 9 massive caves for you to explore one hundred feet underneath the forest floor. The ore mined here was employed to make tools and oxides as well as pigment for dying diverse items as told in diverse displays lining the caves. The caves have also been home to one or two pop concerts too. The most widely known being local boys EMF courting record firms in the early 1990′s before reaching world success. The present shop has a lot of goodies including jewelry for you to buy and there’s a well stocked caf. A picnic area is available too. Wear good walking shoes!
