Yummy Campfire Treats

One of the greatest things about camping is the campfire. Some of my favorite things to cook are sausages, bean soup and grilled chicken. After grilling, we love our desserts and our favorite is the S’more. A S’more is basically a roasted marshmallow between graham crackers, with some chocolate inbetween,

A classic S’more tastes great but they start to get boring when you have had them for days and days. Basically add some twist to the original recipe to get new campfire dessert ideas. You can make a mix using tiny roasted marshmallows, some peanuts, honey graham cereal, raisins and naturally some chocolate chips. Toss the ingredients in a plastic bag and shake it to mix. Serve it in cups and enjoy the sweet and crunchy treat.

Campfire desserts are not all about marshmallows though. Many campfire dessert recipes involve using fresh fruits like bananas, peaches and apples. Baked apples make simple, tasty and healthy desserts. They are also easy to prepare. You will need a few apples, brown sugar, raisins, cinnamon and aluminum foil. Core an apple and place it on a square piece of aluminum foil. Stuff the core of the apple with the raisins, brown sugar and a pinch of cinnamon. Then wrap the foil around the apple and toss it on the coals to bake. Take it off the coals after ten minutes or it may burn. You can modify the recipe by filling the apple with some other kinds of stuffing. You can try using butter and caramels or even whipped cream.

You can also merge different kinds of fruits, cereals & nuts to make healthy campfire treats. Kids love treats like banana boats, eggs on toast, baked peaches. To make banana boats, you will must peel back a section of the skin from the banana. Take care that you do not remove it entirely. Then generate slit down the exposed portion of the banana. Gently pull aside both sides of the slit & generate a pouch which you can fill in with nuts, chocolate chips, peanut butter & marshmallows. You can vary the fillings as per your choice. Then pull the peel back over the banana. Wrap the banana in aluminum foil & let it roast on the coals. After about ten minutes, take the bananas off the coals. Remove the foil & dig in to the warm, sweet, nutty treat. You can bake peaches in the same way that you bake apples. Pit the peaches & cut it in one. Sprinkle some sugar & cinnamon over the peaches & wrap them in tin foil. Then toss them onto the coals & let them bake for some time. Let them cold & remove the foil. Enjoy the warm, caramel peaches. You can also make a fruit cup by mixing tiny bits of fruits like bananas, melons, grapes, apples, pears etc. Mix the fruit with some yogurt & serve fresh.

When you look up recipes for campfire meals, make positive to check for items like sticky buns, angel cakes, campfire muffins etc. They are simple to make & children will enjoy them for positive. You may even make your own pies over campfire. For this you will must bring along your some canned pie filling. Butter some bread & place it on a pie iron. Layer it with canned pie filling & place another slice of bread on top with the buttered side up. Close the pie iron & let it bake for some time.

There are many more wonderful campfire recipes. Change them up by adding your own touches and rest assured that everyone will enjoy the treat.

The Secret To Keeping Dry While Camping

Camping in the outside is fun and as well as a great way for relatives and friends to bond. Most people prefer to camp outside in clear, sunny weather. The thought of rain makes them put off their camping ideas. Rain is part of life and brings with it lots of experiences. However, rain can wreck your camping in case you are not well prepared. Here are few tips on how to keep you and your gear dry while camping.

The tent is one of the most important parts of your camping gear. Picking the right tent will make the difference in staying dry or having a miserable time. When you go to select your tent, make sure it is a water proof tent and not a water resistant one. Water resistant tents only repel the water for a limited time, until they get soaked and let water in. Before setting your tent up, it is a good idea to put down a tarp underneath the tent. This keeps moisture from the ground from getting into the tent. When you set up your tent for the first time, it is a good idea to spray all the seams with a waterproof spray. This is a silicone based spray that can be purchased at most outdoor stores or hardware stores. You can respray the seams once in a while to maintain their water resistance. Do not loose any of the parts that come with your tent, they are all an integral part of the package and the loss of some parts can make the tent useless, or worse, lose its structural integrity. Your tent should come with a rain fly, if it does not, a tarp can be used instead. String the tarp from several trees. Make sure it is sloped so that the rain runs off. If no trees are available, you can use sticks that you collect and tie them in place.

Where you pitch your tent is very important to keeping things dry. High and level ground is always preferred, so that the tent can be set up properly and with enough space to walk around it. Always make sure that there is no evidence of previous run off coming through the site you have chosen. Never set up your tent at the bottom of a slope or in a low point. Water always collects downhill and in low points.

Make sure that you pack lots of extra clothes with you when camping in the rain. A rain jacket that is 100% waterproof will go a long way in making you a happy camper. Many campers choose clothes that are made of cotton or denim, these to not fare well when wet and are very difficult to dry. Stick to man made fibers such as polyster or micro-fleece. These types of clothes dry much quicker. Make sure that there is a separate area for clothes to dry out on. When it is not raining, remember to put your clothes on a tree branch or string them from a rope so that the wind can dry them. The use of a fire will accelerate the drying time considerably. Shoes that are water resistant or water proof will go a long way in keeping your experience a happy one. Even with waterproof shoes, it is important to pack lots of extra socks.

While camping in monsoon, ensure that your sleeping arrangements suit the weather conditions. Get sleeping bags made from synthetic materials instead of down. The ground may get wet in spite of the precautionary measures you take so it would be a good idea to elevate your sleeping bags using cots or airbeds.

Following some of these simple guidelines can make your camping experience much more pleasant.

Camping Chairs, Do You Use One?

Do you enjoy going camping? A lot of people do, particularly those under forty or those with children. I am not converted that it is more male orientated than female, but it is a close call. It could be.

When you go camping, there will usually be a lot of preparation done in advance and provisions and equipment will be bought and laid out in readiness for the great trek, whether you drive to the hiking starting point or walk there from your front door. You will have a backpack, of course, food, clothing, a tent, sleeping bags or blankets and every other little thing you need, but will you take a camping chair?

Yes, you could sit on a fallen tree trunk or a log around the camp fire to talk and do your cooking. You could even sit on the soil or on a blanket, but have you ever stopped to think how heavy a canvas and aluminium framed camping chair really is? It weighs a pound or two and can hang off the outside of your rucksack or knapsack.

A camping chair can greatly enhance your camping holiday, whether you are going to a camping site or just wandering in nature, but probably even more so in the latter situation. If it is raining or has recently rained, logs, rocks and the soil will be damp. If there are lots of ants around, you will not want to sit on the ground anyway.

What about bugs and other creepy-crawlies? Or snakes even? The fact is that a camping chair does not take up much space, does not weigh anything, but can provide a lot of comfort.

Of course, the more complex the camping chair, the heavier it will be, but you not have to have much to feel good after a long trek, particularly if the weather was bad. A stool is better than nothing, but I would want something with a back to it; something like a canvas director’s chair the same as you see in movies.

Your camping chair can double as a table, if the weather is fine and you have other means to sit down. If you serve your food on your camping chair you will have fewer problems with ants and other insects. However, the best reason for taking a folding camping chair with you on a camping holiday, is the luxury of being able to take your boots off and lean back in your camping chair with your feet up when you have made camp. It may not be macho, but I like it.

Quick Setup Tents Allow You To Erect Tents With Ease

These days, if one desires a new tent, the answer is simple. Merely proceed online or go into your nearest sports equipment store. There, you will find many highly advanced materials and designs have become available to anyone in the form of quick setup tents.

Many manufacturers now offer tents which can literally be set up in less than one minute! How can they do this? Mostly, they achieve this by being completely pre-assembled, with no threading or construction required. Once removed from the carry bag, the tent is manipulated to pop open and is then ready to be staked into the ground.

The materials that go into this equipment include polyester that is tough and resistant to the elements. Wind and rain should be no problem. The material is also fire-retardant. The poles which create the dome of the tents are fiberglass or aluminum, which are flexible and lightweight.

Options to be considered when choosing a tent are myriad, but can be narrowed down to a few key concepts. Size is first, as there can be room for one, or up to four persons in a single tent. The largest are domed high enough for a grown man to stand upright. Some smaller ones can only accommodate crouching. Overall weight is important, especially when one is backpacking to a campground. A Beginner’s Introduction to Carp Fishing Gear

Carp fishing is a popular hobby that has a long tradition in Europe, and is growing in the States, as well. Carp are known to thrive in almost any type of water, making them an easy to find and attractive fish to angle for. All fishermen know that no matter what you’re chasing, good angling gear is needed.

The first piece of fishing gear to look at is a good carp fishing rod. A suitable fishing rod should be at least six feet long (more is okay), and also medium action. This is the best combination of strength and flexibility to make carp fishing a challenge, but give you a good chance to lead even the trophy sized fish.

When you’re considering fishing rods, obviously you also need to consider reels. Open faced reels should also be the only type you consider, although this is true of almost any good fishing rod. In addition, you want the reel to be large enough to hold at least 150 yards 12 pound test line.

Carp tend to like bait as opposed to tackle. While these fish have voracious appetites, they definitely prefer smelly bait to actual plastic lures. So try looking around for quality carp bait.

There is also the matter of “pods.” A pod is a set up that holds three rods at once for the carp angler, allowing the fisherman to be hands free during the wait for a trophy carp to take the bait. These are optional pieces of fishing gear that are often used by more seasoned carpers.

And of course there’s the all important fishing line. Kevlar fishing line is a popular choice among any anglers, although in the end the main concern is getting fishing line that is 12 pound test or better.

A beginning carp fisher can get all the tackle and gear needed for a fairly inexpensive price. Between rod, reel, line, and bait you can start out for well under $100 in most areas. This is a fantastic fresh water fish to pursue, and one that lives up to its reputation as a fighter.

These are some of the basic things you will want to look at when looking at some beginner’s gear for carp fishing. Follow the guidelines in this article and you will be looking at some serious success carping in no time.
