The earth as we know it today is going through some troublesome times to put it mildly. It does not matter if you live on a major fault line that suffers from regular tremors or in a quiet town of New Jersey, having some emergency preparedness could mean our survival.
Being told that the world is going to end on any given day is nothing new; the latest in predictions from the Mayan calendar and Nostradamus conclude our demise in 2012. It seems that scientists from around the world are agreeing with them and with recent global weather change it is becoming hard to ignore the fact that they might be true.
With the vague predictions of how the world could end with stories of floods, fire, the coming of a new ice age or just all out war; it is difficult to know what to prepare for. Urban survival is about being mentally and physically prepared to deal with any situation and to have the ability to act quickly. Preparation through education and supplies are key to your survival.
No matter what happens to the world there are always likely to be survivors and it is the survivalist nature of these people that will continue the existence of mankind. Many people will just be thinking the world is an endless resource and it will never end, to think like this is very naive. It might or might not end in 2012 but you would be a fool to think it will last forever.
To be prepared for natural and manmade disasters is as important now as it has ever been. To have some Urban survival skills do deal with situations such as; being split up from your family with no communication or having a stock of the right survival foods to see you through a period of being trapped or having to be trapped.
It does not take the ultimate disaster for us to find ourselves needing knowledge of urban survival techniques. With the worlds shifting climates it is becoming a regular occurrence to be trapped in our homes. For the survivalist this could mean a leisurely few days relaxing in front of the T.V. for other it could mean fighting for their lives.
People prepare for mini disasters all the time without thinking of it as survival. Stock piling wood in the winter for the fire is a typical survival technique, you don’t think about because you never go cold. It’s when the power is cut off in the winter and you have no wood that you realise that it would of been a good urban survival technique to of planned ahead
There is nothing worse than facing a disaster with no preparation. Urban survival is all about knowing what to do and having the mental awareness to deal with situations as they arrive.
